Jelimo hones in on historic mark; Bolt electrifies in Zürich - ÅF Gold

"Lightning Bolt" electrified us again but there was to be no storming finish in Zürich. While not quite as extravagantly coasting to victory as he did in the Beijing 100m final, Jamaica's Usain Bolt was smoothness personified as he made up for an appalling start. His 0.193 reaction time to the gun was the slowest of the entire nine man line-up, but he effortlessly cut through the field from about 30 metres out to take a comfortable victory in 9.83 sec (-0.5m/s wind).

second place U.S. Men's Olympic Marathon trials finish was the precursor to Keflezighi's silver medal in Athens, but he realizes "it's going to be a lot more difficult than 2004, because the field is much stronger.

On Saturday in New York City, Hall, the American record-holder in the half marathon (59:43, set in January in Houston), will get his chance as one of the favorites in the U.S. Olympics Men's Marathon Trials.

Martin Lel, 29, comes to the ING New York City Marathon more than a favorite.
Jelena Prokopcuka and Marilson Gomes dos Santos ready for New York

The ING New York City Marathon 2007 on Sunday 4 November presents an interesting contrast between the men's and women's races. One major change this year is that there will be no "rabbits" - those paid-for pace-setters whose job is to assure a fast race. That may make a difference in the men's race, but it probably won't in the women's.

Kigen defends with sub-2:08, Kraus surprises - Frankfurt Marathon

Frankfurt, Germany - Wilfred Kigen of Kenya won this third Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon in a row on Sunday morning, breaking his own course record with a time of 2:07:58. But, as he admitted, it was the toughest of all. He was headed for most of the way by compatriot, Hosea Rotich, who was competing in only his third Marathon. But Kigen proved the tougher in the last kilometre, pulling away to win by 80 metres from Rotich, who ran a personal best of 2:08:11. Another Kenyan, Sammy Kurgat came through the field to take third in 2:08:38, also a personal best.
