How do you find people to run with?

In a continuing collaboration with Scott over at Straight to the Bar, we will be writing about some things that you might be able to do locally throughout the month of April. This week, I'd like to answer a question from Lisa about how to find a local running club. She asked:

I am looking for a running group in my area. I live in Mesa, Arizona and my zipcode is 85207. If you have any information about this matter please advise.

Thank you.

Review » Kara Goucher Endurance Boost Workout

A little over a week ago, I was offered the opportunity to review one of Nike's new workout mixes that you can load on your iPod and use to guide you through a workout. There was only one problem with this.I don't have a working mp3 player, and never wear headphones when I'm working out. This actually worked out pretty well, though, because I was able to convince the guy at Nike to let me give it to a few people that belong to my email newsletter to review. Within a few minutes of sending the email out, I had a dozen people asking for a review copy.

Run To Win: The Spirit of the Marathon (movie review)

I just got back from watching Spirit of the Marathon, a documentary by Jon Dunham that follows a number of athletes as they prepare for the 2005 Chicago Marathon. There must have been a fair number of people who bought tickets in advance, because they have already scheduled an encore presentation on February 21st, 2008. So if you missed seeing the movie tonight, tickets will become available starting tomorrow.

Haile Gebrselassie may not run Olympic Marathon

Unfortunately, there is a very real possibility that Gebrselassie is not going to compete in the 2008 Olympic Marathon in Beijing. The city has done a sub-par job of cleaning up its levels of pollution over the past couple of years, and there are already some fears that events will have to be rescheduled this Summer due to the ever-present smog.

Run To Win - Download the Introduction to Book on Marathoning

How would you like to see a "sneak preview" of my upcoming book?

I plan on releasing it Thurdsay, January 17th and I have put together a short PDF document that includes the introduction about why I wanted to write the book, as well as the overview page so that you can see what is included.

I have started getting some feedback from the folks that got to see an early draft of the book, and so far everybody has been ecstatic about it.

Lake Running FAQ

In a continuing collaboration with Scott over at Straight to the Bar, we will be writing about taking advantage of your location for the month of December. This week, I'll answer some common questions about running over the surface of a local lake.

The 3 Components of an Effective Workout (special report)

I have just completed my first special report, The Three Components of an Effective Workout. Your training strategy is obviously an important part of your fitness and how well your workouts go, but there are two components that are even more important than your training.

Again to Carthage book review

My copy of Again to Carthage arrived this week, so I gave it a read through. It is a very different book than Once a Runner. You can read and enjoy Carthage without having read the first book, (which is good as it still costs in the hundreds of dollars,) and fans of the first book will certainly appreciate all of the references that are made.

A 3 year old learns to wheel chair race

"The following race recap was written by Sara Holtsman, who runs in the St. Louis, Missouri area. She fits in time as a lawyer between her workouts. This past weekend, she had the pleasure of introducing a new athlete into the sport of running and wheelchair racing. You can read more about her and visit her website at: runninglawyer.blogspot.com"

Again to Carthage will be published at the end of the month

"As the price of Once a Runner soars up near $500 for a used copy, the release date for Again to Carthage approaches at the end of November. The official publication date for Again to Carthage is November 26, 2007. I am not sure when Once a Runner will be republished, but John had said that it would be early next year around the same time that the sequel was published."

"If wearable computing is going to be popular you need to provide some information, but not a lot," [optics engineer Mike] Hazel says, "our goal was to produce something very light that could be styled into a normal spectacle."
