A memorable program of athletics here last night on the fourth day of these U.S. Olympic Trials concluded with Bernard Lagat sprinting to victory in the men's 5000m, making his first U.S. Olympic team and winning the American title at the distance for the third consecutive year. Lagat's performance came after two 800m finals which enthralled the 20,000 spectators who packed the University of Oregon's Hayward Field on a beautiful summer's evening. read more...

This morning at the World Track and Field Championships, Alan Webb was set to challenge for the 1,500M title, but it was another American that won the gold. Bernard Lagat, formerly of Kenya but now running for the USA, won the 1,500M, as Alan Webb faded late in the race to finish eighth. read more...

Men's 1,500 Semis: Lagat/Ramzi Impress - Webb Doesn't

The American distance running aficionados who got up early to watch 2007 world leader Alan Webb's quest for America's first gold in the 1,500 since 1908 likely are re-examining their holdings in Alan Webb's stock and perhaps switching wholeheartedly to compatriot Bernard Lagat after the two semifinals today. With 300 meters to go in both semis, both Lagat and Webb found themselves in the same situation - in the back.
