Sammy Korir of Kenya ran his first marathon in under 2 hours and 9 minutes in Rotterdam back 1997, a course where he has run under 2:09 3 times. When Paul Tergat ran his (then) world record time of 2:04:55, Sammy Korir was only 1 second behind him.
