8 months, 8 days ago Zoila Gomez, 28, was fourth in the U.S. Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials in Boston and Cambridge in 2:33:53 on April 20, which makes her an alternate to the American Olympic team. Her previous marathon best was a 2:35:26 for third place at the 2006 USA Marathon Championships at Twin Cities. She was 14th in the 2007 Boston Marathon in 2:41:36. Gomez was 35th in the 2007 World Championships in Osaka in 2:44:49. She made her 26.2-mile debut at the 2005 ING New York City Marathon in 2:41:23. Her other 2008 results included a 1:13:11 for ninth place at the USA Half Marathon in January and a 53:46 for 14th at the USA 15K in March ("my body was fighting a cold.
