When USA Track and Field CEO Doug Logan commissioned the Project 30 Task Force, the group was given the charge of charting a course of change for the organization that would lead to improved performance in international competition. A task force commissioned by USA Track and Field released its report yesterday, lashing out at the American relay system, recommending streamlining Olympics trials and calling for a more stringent policy for dopers who want to be reinstated. The report came in the wake of a disappointing showing at the Beijing Olympics. The Beijing Olympic Games were a low point for US track and field. They came up against an extra-ordinary athlete in Usain Bolt, and short of producing three world records, they were never going to win gold medals anyway. On the women's side, it was more of the same as Jamaica took three of the four sprint medals, Great Britain the other, and the USA claimed only the gold of LaShawn Merritt in the 400m. (more)
